Latterbarrow

A visit late morning to Latterbarrow, another Cumbria Wildlife Trust reserve. It is small - about four hectares - but it is a real gem.

My knowledge of wildflowers is pretty limited, I am trying to improve. On entering the reserve we met a chap who was very chatty, and seemed to know his plants. I made a mental note of the names, and then did a bit of checking when we returned. I now realise I ought to have looked at the leaves a little more closely, because I now think he was not right on everything.

And so in this montage top left is greater butterfly orchid, and bottom left is crosswort. However I don’t think top right is pyramidal orchid, I think it’s more likely to be common spotted orchid. And bottom right is not marjoram, but common valerian. But I may be wrong on both counts.
