Air show no show and other flying things

Unfortunately the second day of the Torbay Air Show was cancelled due to low cloud in the bay and on the flight path.There was hope all day but an announcement was made at 4pm, 
In the evening we went to see some other flyers - moths. A group from Moths uk came, by invitation, to Clennon Valley where Jacqui does her conservation work. The purpose was to do a moth survey to add to the information about this habitat. What an inspirational group. Their enthusiasm and knowledge was incredible. Several moth traps were laid over a wide area, with small generators to power the lamps. In the dark it looked like an impromptu landing strip for the resistance. Once the moths have been trapped, identified, and counted they are set free. We left at 11.30pm but the majority of the group were going to be there until much later. It was a lovely clear night but apparently these beautiful creatures, which come in a myriad of different shapes and muted colours, will fly in wet conditions. There are about 2500 UK species with more establishing every decade due to migration. Why are moths attracted to the light- nobody really knows, or at least there are several theories. A very interesting evening.
