Staying Local

Another beautiful day.  We stayed close to home this time.  First lunch at Gloagburn Farm and then a visit to St. Kattan’s church built in the 13th century but now roofless.  The mausoleum was built in the 19th century for the 1st duke of Montross.  Lots of interesting early stones.  One was for a “farmer John” and his wife Christine Cow!  We laughed and laughed but Diane suspects it was “Gow”, which is a common Scottish name.  We stopped by Doune Castle (extra) which was the set for Castle Leoch in Outlander.  Lots of the series was filmed in Perthshire.  Our final stop was to see the statue of Sir David Sterling who was the founder of the SAS (Special Air Service) in WWII.  Then it was home so I could pack my big suitcase and a small overnight bag for our final adventure in the Scottish Borders.
