Nottingham Day 2
We walked the canal towpath into the city centre. Our aim was to find a particular branch of Pret A Manger. Ever since the branch closed in Stratford we've been hoping to find another one day. There isn't one in Worcester, that branch was taken over by Gregg's, so we were pleased to find Nottingham still had an open branch of Pret. Anyway we did find it and had a morning coffee that stretched into lunch, very nice.
From there we decided to visit the castle. Originally built by William the Conqueror the place has had a chequered history, becoming a palace and then being burnt down by the rebellion in October 1831, finally being rebuilt in the late 19th century. It is now a tourist attraction centred on Robin Hood and a museum showing paintings, pottery and sculpture. They also run tours of the extensive caves under the castle. Well worth a visit, especially the Rebellion Gallery which covers the building's history. This photo of Nottingham Castle is taken from the canal towpath. On the way back we stopped off at Costa for a pot of tea.
