A lost hat?

This morning I went to belly dancing and while I was in Ellesmere and the rain had stopped I went for a walk in the woodland.

I spotted this in the undergrowth.  Is it a Medieval hat? Has it been there for all this time and is it's owner lost in the wood?  Another mystery!
