Dan's ingenuity

This is not a particularly lovely photo but is indicative of our lifestyle. We wanted a larger cistern to collect rainwater and Dan put his thinking cap on. He got these black plastic pallets from the local brewer. The beer kegs are shipped on them and they wanted rid of them. He did buy the heavy duty bill board vinyl to line the cistern with. He messed around with shape and decided a hexagon would hold the most water. He got the gutters from the farm house all set up to lead to this tank. Today we had about an inch of rain and this cistern is nearly full. The capacity is a bit above 900 gallons in the tank. Tomorrow there will almost be another inch of rain and I imagine it will overflow. We have a small electric pump that we will be able to use to water things at a good flow. He made another cistern over by the barn to catch that run off. Definitely a handy guy.
The extra is looking down from our living space into the tank. We will be putting something in there in case an animal falls in so it can climb out. Eventually we will put some goldfish in each to eat the mosquito larvae that is sure to occur.
