Sessile Oak ( Quercus robur )
Day 10 of my attempt to post something wild for "30 days wild". WE went across to "the Mate's" house to meet his son and family again before they began their long trek north.
On the way over we stopped by a mature Sessile Oak. I was looking mainly for Lichens. What caught my eye were a few small young shoots growing out from the trunk about a metre (3 ' ) above the ground. Why a mature Oak with a trunk almost 60cm ( 2' ) across should decide it needed new growth down there I haven't decided.
Once at "the Mate's" we had long conversations about the life and times of Richard. Then along to "The Pot Place" for a lovely lunch and more long conversations. Eventually, they managed to tear themselves away and head north. They will have to return at some point as there are still things to be done.
