The Sketcher

For many years now one of my closest friends, John has been developing his talent as an artist as I have progressed (or not ?) as a photographer. We are able to share our interests with that of another photographer friend, Eric by going out on photo/sketching expeditions together on a fairly regular basis. John will use his sketches and photos as the basis of his art work. He is a very meticulous sketcher who pays a great deal of attention to detail and recently he has been trying to loosen up his final drawing or painting technique to make his work more impressionistic or abstract.

Our motivation has been helped over recent years by the fact that the three of us mount an annual exhibition at the local library. It can concentrate the mind wonderfully to know we have a target date to work towards. The exhibitiion itself is important as it gives us an opportunity to display our work to the general public but it also serves as a salutary reminder of how we are developing artistically.
