Stuff and Nonsense

Banded Demoiselle

Another new site for us today in Llangefni. When we were at the Spinnies a few days ago, a lady in one of the hides mentioned that The Dingle at Llangefni was a great nature reserve with Red Squirrels, Otters, Kingfishers, Kestrels and Dragonflies, so we thought it was well worth a visit. It was only 25 minutes away so we arrived quite early(well, early for us whilst we are on holiday!). We walked the length of the reserve and further on towards the reservoir with very little seen apart from a few regular woodland species, so were quite disappointed. I guess you need to be in the know about where the wildlife hangs out.....
On our way back I had been paying more attention to the insects and butterflies that were around and we came upon a pair of banded demoiselles in amongst the reeds. They were so pretty and I managed a few shots that I was happy with. I rarely see demoiselles so this was a real treat.
After lunch we made a short visit to Penmon Point for a bit of sea watching and an ice cream, but were not successful in locating any black guillemots which was my objective.....but the ice cream was delicious! ;)
