Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2022 Sunday — Mail

We were awake starting our day slightly after 4:00 this morning. "Road-trip" was the number 1 attraction on our agenda today. I will tell that tale in my post script, but first the explanation of my photo.

Five weeks of United States Postal Service mail had fallen thru our garage door mail-slot while we've been gone. A big laundry basket sits beneath it, collecting the daily addition of envelopes, postcards, and various advertisements. One small envelope filled with delight was buried in the stack. The handwritten address was singing "Open me!" and I did.

Talk about warm fuzzies and a rush of good feelings -- big SIGH! A little envelope with a real stamp and a handwritten note inside is a lovely gift. When the card contains a stunning photo captured by the one whose handwriting is in the card, and the card has been created by hand, well, a priceless treasure has been received.

This is from a fellow Blipper, a friend who I have never met in person. "Tookie" and I started communicating way back in 2009 (I think I have that right) when the Blipfoto community was considerably smaller and functioning inside a highly structured standard of policies (each photo had to be captured on the day it was uploaded; frames were not permissible; no pictures of pictures; so it was somewhat rigid and at times a little stifling). Joy was in the journey of meeting new friends. Early on someone suggested that we all upload a selfie so we could meet each other. That was fun, not to mention a bit overwhelming. One project the entire community constructed was for each of us to upload a photo of ourself or someone else with our hands extended like we were reaching to the person on each side of us. We had one week to upload as many as seven of those poses. Blip-Central glued them together, put music to it, created a video, and gave us all the link to it. That was hilarious fun to watch. So that was the rich soil in which Tookie and I grew our friendship; it has been growing ever since.

Her personal note to me and Mr. Fun to wish us a belated Happy 57th Anniversary was more than special and a lovely surprise. Special souvenirs like this card are the unique features of Blipfoto and make this not only the best and nicest community on the Internet, but have transformed this cyberspace into pure gold. Thank YOU Tookie for the beautiful handmade anniversary card and letter.

From Southern California,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too!

P.S. Our road-trip was 4 hours and 5 minutes of a non-gridlock road (freeways) from Cayucos to Corona. We rolled onto the freeway at 6:22 after stopping at the library to drop off all our borrowed books and movies. It seems to be "the least amount of traffic" morning to journey thru Los Angeles. Because we are retired, we can travel the distance any day we select and in the 10 years we've owned a retirement home in Cayucos, we have traveled it just about every day of the seven we have to choose from. So far, early Sunday mornings is the best.
