Passion flower

Today's the day .................... to refrain

This is the first flower to open on a new passion flower vine that we planted in the garden this year.  It really is a rather peculiar flower too - and I haven't quite made my mind up whether it's wonderfully exotic or just plain odd?!

It has white flowers with central rings of purple, blue and white spiky filaments followed by egg-shaped, orange-yellow fruit. According to the blurb, it's a 'vigorous, trouble-free climber that thrives in hot summers. Perfect for a tropical look garden and fully hardy'.

It also says elsewhere that '......consuming passion flower products may cause drowsiness, nausea, dizziness, abnormal heart rhythms, asthma or rhinitis'.  So we definitely won't be eating it ....................
