A Change of Plans
This is actually a picture I took yesterday evening (at around 10:00 p.m.!!!) of the sun setting over the Atlantic Ocean somewhere off the coast of Newfoundland.
Just as we were finishing dinner, the Captain announced that he had made the decision not to proceed to Greenland as planned ... and that we were also not going to be crossing Prince Christian Sound -- two of the main reasons we chose this cruise in the first place. He blamed "weather conditions" for this, although when we checked the weather forecast for that area on our computers, we saw no sign of the high winds and heavy swells he claimed influenced his decision to cancel. Humph. So now we have the thrill of four days at sea before we arrive in Iceland. Grr.
He did throw a tiny sop our way. We have stopped for about a minute and a half (well OK ... two or three hours) at tiny Ile St. Pierre, just off the coast of Newfoundland. It is a French territory, so I suppose we should all be delighted to be in such an exotic place as we hum La Marseillaise! . But not as delighted as I would be to be seeing the icebergs etc. we were initially promised!
Extras: The rather stark view from our balcony of Ile St. Pierre's rocky terrain, and a sort of Rothko-esque abstract of part of the lifeboat directly under our cabin, the beautiful blue water, and the dock walkway.
