against the odds

leon and sarah had a justly deserved heroes' welcome at school today.
a week ago sarah was in tears thinking her dream of running in the marathon had disappeared when she tweaked the ligaments in her right knee, but she rested it all last week and completed the challenge in 4 1/2 hrs, despite being in pain the whole way.
leon showed equal determination when something twanged in HIS knee with 7 miles to go, but he walked and staggered over the line in 5 hours.
