Down by the Riverside
Having slept well and managing a near eight hours l went straight out for my routine walk.
As high temperatures are predicted for later today l decided to lengthen the walk to get my steps in as it felt relatively cool and went down to the river.
Stepping stones are passable today so l expect there will be lots of young people down here later.
A couple of years ago some bright spark from Manchester put on social media that he had found this delightful place and hundreds of lemmings followed him.
Before that it had just been a few local kids, mostly on days they had come out of school after exams.
So many come from afar that these days we locals often get asked which is the way to the beach :-).
I honestly don’t mind them coming, from my own experience they are polite and good humoured and mostly just glad to be getting a break from studying.
Some visitors do leave litter but most don’t and our local Wombal litter picking volunteers do a sweep every day.
The main concern is the river itself, it’s one of the fastest rising in Europe and people are advised not to swim here.
