Summertime and the power is failing
The main photo is of the unit that blew and caused 154 properties in our part of Chobham to lose power. This happened on Wednesday and an emergency repair was effected and today the full repair was carried out. Unfortunately we didn't receive any notification from UK Power Networks that this was happening. The power was out from around 09.30 to 13.30. Apparently the component, expertly displayed by one of the engineers on the extra photo, was 60 years old and simply couldn't cope with the heat. As I understood it, the component is part of the process that transforms the High Voltage supply to Low Voltage. I got a bit lost after that but it is clear that climate change in the form of extreme heat, as much as in intense storms, threatens continuity of power supply. Time to fit those solar panels!
