Crail

Today we made the long journey north to Crail on the east coast of Scotland. Although it is some 500 miles the trip was completely trouble free and it took less than ten hours door to door with  a bit more than an hour for lunch and a couple of coffee breaks. We came off the motorway for lunch and stopped off at the Brief Encounter cafe in Carnforth. Carnforth Railway Station was the location for much of the film Brief Encounter and the current cafe is a recreation of the original one where Celia Johnson meets Trevor Howard (extra). It was a fun place to lunch.

Our holiday rental is very pleasant and just a pebble’s throw from the beach. We took a quick stroll after we arrived but were beaten back by a brisk wind. Nonetheless, the view was amazing. Tomorrow we begin a proper exploration.
