Secret Scotland
We have had a very good first day on the East Neuk. We started out this morning by visiting the Secret Bunker https://secretbunker.co.uk/about-the-bunker/ . Not so secret any more, it proved an interesting journey underground and back into Cold War days when the UK was dotted with a series of Nuclear Command Bunkers. The bunker has been well restored and is a treasure trove of memorabilia and information (see extra). We spent some time watching part of the film The War Game, which is a fictionalised account of a nuclear bomb being dropped in Kent. Dating from 1966 the film was made in the way of a documentary and is shocking in terms of content as well as amazing in cinematographic terms. I couldn’t help but think of the current state of the world as I watched.
After a sobering morning we spent the afternoon in St Andrews and had a pleasant lunch followed by a bit of light shopping and a walk on the beach. There was some sun between the clouds and despite the brisk wind it wasn’t cold. All in all a most enjoyable day out.
