I do love peonies
I have three big vases of peonies on the go at the minute. I’m so happy to be at home for their flowering this year! We have four peony shrubs in the garden: one white, one deep pink and two pink-flowering.
Normally I have a ‘home alone’ week in June while the Ards Man goes off to terrorise socialise in the Clyde in his boat, along with other pals of a certain vintage. Can you comprehend how special this week is to me? Home. Alone.
I can either get loads done or nothing at all! My choice. So in 2020 the Clyde thing didn’t happen because of that virus. In 2021 it was set to go ahead but the AM’s crew (of one) reneged and….get this….I had to crew! So not only did I miss my home alone week but I had an extra Smee (thank you TLM) duty in sunny (pah!) Scotland on the boat. We usually do a month in July, so I can’t have any hanging baskets or tubs of plants as they’d all perish through lack of watering. Last year there was also a June fortnight so I missed seeing the peonies flowering. A complaint of privilege, I know, but I still felt the loss.
Not this year! The AM is off carousing and I am knee-deep in peonies. Happy.
Hope you’re having a jolly time, J!
