If you can't beat them...

Red Clover ( Trifolium pratense )

A plant that always leaves me thinking.  Almost every agricultural seed mix I have ever seen contains "Wild White Clover".  I have never been sure how a plant that has been bred purely for seed to put into a mix can be called "Wild".  The inclusion of "Wild White" is obviously for its nitrogen fixing abilities, common to all legumes.   Not a bad trick, being able to grow some of your own plant food.

Red Clover on the other hand I have never seen cultivated and yet it will have the same nitrogen fixing abilities.  I suspect the fact the Red is a larger, leafier plant makes it less valuable in a seed mix.

30 days wild day 20.
