Goosegogs
I did not get the best sleep last night, mostly due to Brian and the noise he makes. Some of it is snoring but a lot of it is just noisy breathing due to sinus issues. He uses over the counter remedies but they don't help much, although it is even worse if he doesn't use them. I saw Boris Johnson had a minor op on his sinuses - I wonder if it is for the same problem, and if the procedure is also available to plebs if so!
I was up late after my rough night which was inconvenient as I had quite a bit to do today. I wanted to bake with the gooseberries as some of the ingredients I had would go off if I didn't get it done today, it is bin-sorting day, I had an appointment over the other side of the city for a Reiki treatment and the kitchen needed cleaning.
Well the pie is baked, finally. I prepared all except the filo pastry topping this morning - I'd have got it all done if the store-bought* pastry sheets had not needed to come out of the fridge two hours before use. Or if I'd read the small print on the box! So I made the gooseberry compote and egg custard filling and left it in the fridge until I had time to do it.
This gave me time to clean the kitchen - or most of it - before getting ready to catch the bus to my appointment. The buses are very unreliable in Lincoln these days - they lost lots of drivers during Covid - mostly to other work, but one or two to the virus itself unfortunately. There are many cancellations so it pays to allow plenty of time so if one is cancelled you have a chance of getting on the next!
The appointment itself was amazing! I learnt Reiki when Grace was small but did not have the time to do anything with it. I wanted a bit of a "refresher" really! It is so very relaxing.
Afterwards I had a long wait for the bus home and a mystery tour of virtually that whole side of the city on the way home.
Since back I have made steak and chips for tea for Zeph and I, washed up and finished the pie. I may eat a bit of that soon too!
My Blip shows the only thing I've photographed today - some of the gooseberries, taken as I was doing the topping and tailing.
*O f course!! You don't honestly think I'm going to stand there and make filo pastry, surely!
