Frozen waterfall …
….. ….. in the Try Burn.
This is the same frozen stream as yesterday, in a slightly different place. The beauty of these ice sculptures almost defies description. I’d like to go back with a tripod but time today didn’t allow more photography.
I met a granddaughter off the plane from Auckland. She came with me on our walk to the Try Burn, but couldn’t stay long as she was being met by friends who took her over to Wanaka.
Today was the first official recognition by New Zealand of the Maori New Year holiday Matariki.
You may know that star cluster as the Pleiades.
It’s been very significant for years to the Maori people, and they are especially delighted that it’s now become a significant holiday for everyone.
I went with friends to the official opening in Arrowtown this afternoon, the highlight of which for me was the Kapa Haka presentation by local primary school children. Their singing and routines were spectacular.
There was a lights display in Arrowtown this evening but a decision was made to go tomorrow night instead. Enough was enough!
I’ll put a photo of Missy in amongst the hose frost into Extras. It’s a tad dark.
