The Ards Man and I were married in Belfast forty years ago today!

My dress was so big that it eclipsed the AM at the altar. I remember that it absolutely poured with rain and all our photos had to be taken inside.

We’re very fortunate in that most of our friends from that time are still very good friends now; we can’t believe we’ve known each other for so long! The Veep, who comes sailing with us every July, was one of my bridesmaids way back then. Her mum made the bridesmaids dresses as a gift, as I was a ‘wee orphan’! In those days the bride’s family usually paid for everything. In the end the AM’s dad paid for the reception, but we didn’t know he was going to do that until the day itself! We were very grateful, as you can imagine.

We’re off for a celebratory lunch now!
