A male Silver-washed fritillary poised and about to launch itself on yet another patrol of its territory, looking for females and ready to drive out any potential rivals. If you enter Silver-washed fritillary territory wearing bright orange at this time of year you can almost guarantee a flypast and possibly a landing from one of our largest butterflies.
