Homeward bound

Today we had to depart our lovely house in Okehampton. A and P took D and F back to my Mum's  home while M and I drove back to Winchester stopping for a couple of  hours at Stourhead House and Gardens. We had a look around  the house which I  don't recall having done before. It has  a splendid library created by Sir  Richard Colt Hoare 2nd Baronet  (1758-1838).He also collected plants, notably  Pelargoniums, and  we saw a fine  collection of different cultivars on display in one of the  greenhouses. The Hoare  family, descended from the wealthy  banker, Sir Richard Hoare, owned the estate for over two hundred years but it was given to the National Trust in 1946 by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, a year before he died, as his  only heir, Captain Henry Colt Arthur "Harry " Hoare   had died in 1917 in the  first World War.
My photo is  of  a famous Stourhead view  but being midsummer all is looking greener than it is usually portrayed in the  Autumn.
