Ineffable

American University Beirut

So... Today was relatively unbelievable.

Yesterday Jamie got some really really rough news about some things happening at the camp. I would say it was the worst news that an NGO could get. To be honest, yesterday afternoon was emotionally really tough for Mimers (the name I call Jamie) and the reality of dealing with it today was even worse.

SO, I didn't go to the camp today.

Instead we went to AUB with John. This is AUB. No seriously. Please tell me if you ever went to a University that was this beautiful.

I had forgotten how breathtaking it is.

I walked David around the city today. I showed him all the majors. We stopped at Starbucks for coffee... Something I either only do with my family or when I am traveling. And as usual, they got the order wrong. Three times. I waited patiently until they got it right. Note to self, we ordered the same two drinks, exactly. Soy Vanilla Lattes. Three times. Wow.

We have had so many hysterical experiences in the last two days. Yesterday this huge Lebanese guy (not normal) called David and I over to the side of the street down town and told us that he knew David's name was David, amongst other true and erroneous information. He was hysterical, David and I laughed so hard that we could barely breath.

Today, we got in a Service - AKA - short trip taxi, and it broke down and we had to help push it off the road during rush hour... then we got another one and realized we were three blocks from home. Tourists. We are SO tourists. We said the name of the park we were trying to get to fifty times and our driver had to pull over and ask someone to explain to him where we were trying to go... Embarrassing. And so funny! We also paid 100 times what we should have for the service. Na ja.

I must be having an inside ache for Berlin, I dreamt in German last night, even the signs in my dreams were in German. So funny, because I am so glad for the break from life, work, relationships, thinking, talking... my Blackberry. It's fun to come home to see if I have email, it's fun to wake up and see what's there! I forgot how fun the suspense is!

Yesterday dove us deep into life here, the culture, the complications, the nuances, the craziness, the chaos! I am thankful for the time here, the experience, the excitement. I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to be here... What an incredible place.

I finally updated the other blog.
