Grimsay wheelhouse

Less than a kilometre from our house and not on any maps, this is an Iron Age construction that, unsurprisinlgy, is called a wheelhouse, a type of building that is unique to NW Scotland.
Although it is the best example to visit on the Outer Hebrides, the real archaeologists hate this one as it was excavated by an amateur in the 1990s.
With a more modern building on the right and Norse pottery found on excavation, its use spans many years.
It nows acts as our venue for pre-lunch Christmas drinks with neighbours who croft the land it lies on.
