Labor of Love
About ten years ago we learned the importance of milkweed for monarch butterflies and immediately stopped removing them from our yard. Next, we started caring for those that randomly popped up in the yard. Then, we started transplanting them to one dedicated garden • Over the past five years we’ve gradually increased the number of milkweed in the now dubbed “Butterfly Bed” while introducing a variety of annual and perennial nectar plants. When we added shelter and water last year, I knew this was the year to become an official Monarch Waystation! I filled out an online application a week ago and received our certificate and metal sign today! • The garden continues to evolve. In fact I planted more milkweed and a shasta daisy this morning, after this photo was taken • Soon we’ll install the sign on a post inside the garden • An explosive January 6 Committee Hearing today!!
