Sailing out of Portsmouth

‘The world is a book and those who do not travel fill only one page.’

I had intended to do something cultural in Portsmouth, see the ‘Mary Rose’ or ‘HMS Victory’ but there was a charge for entering the centre and so I drove a bit out of town and went to Pizza Express - a first for me - but it was great and the waitress charming.
This boat is amazing. I’d booked a seat in their Club Lounge which is at front of ship with great views. Endless wine, snacks and cakes. Steve would have been in 7th heaven!
The Spinnaker Tower in the photo is a 170 ft observation tower. Modelled on a sail to reflect the city’s seafaring history, this landmark observation tower is two and a half times the size of Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square – making it the tallest climbable structure outside the UK capital. Originally called the Portsmouth Millennium Tower, it’s hard to believe it’s coming up to its second decade: from the stomach-turning external glass lift to the panoramic decks, it still feels super state-of-the-art.
