Alonissos

Today we made the 15 minute crossing on the high speed hydrofoil to Alonnisos, the next island in the Sporades chain, which is smaller and even more laid back than Skopelos.

The only local bus service is the one that took us up to the original capital, Old Patitiri which was largely destroyed by an earthquake in 1965 but has been rebuilt and now it’s narrow streets are lined with attractive restorations or rebuilds as well as little tavernas and arty shops.

It really is a pleasant place to stroll around and, despite being a tourist attraction there were few of us wandering around.

The church and house in the blip are typical of the architecture and ambiance. The extras show the main square and church  and a patient donkey, presumably awaiting its workman owner.

Back down at the harbour we enjoyed a long lunch of typical Greek appetisers (fava, tsatziki, anchovies and tuna) before sitting on the beach reading.

The ferry back was a more sedate affair. Another evening meal by the harbour.
