Road Trip Day Two
If yesterday was a good day, today was a GREAT day! Not just with the weather (wall to wall sunshine) and the stops, but we managed nearly 9,000 steps!
Before we left Tain, we found our artist’s wee gallery in her house down the road a bit. We didn’t buy any new paintings - no more room.
Onwards to Dornoch, which we might have whizzed by, had not Croftcrafts given us a tip. A nice wee, in fact, the smallest cathedral in Scotland. And a very nice ‘Jail Shop’… Yes, Irene, a purchase was made, and it wasn’t by J.
We arrived at the main event of the day - Dunrobin Castle. I have wanted to go there for years! And it did not disappoint. It must be viewed from down in the gardens, which meant a long troop down many many steps. And an even longer stagger back up. Which we did twice. But it was worth it. And we saw the birds of prey, resting on their wee stands, ready for the next display, which we didn’t wait for. We also did the castle tour, which was like most stately homes, with the added spectacular views out over the gardens to the sea.
From there we stopped in at Helmsdale and sat down by the harbour and had a wee picnic.
Next stop, the most northerly point on mainland Britain - John o’Groats. The obligatory selfie at the signpost, then went to see the Duncansby Stacks. They were quite far from the road. But we went past spectacular cliffs, full of nesting birds. But we spotted only one puffin.
I could only take a photo from a quite far away - we didn’t have time I couldn’t be bothered walking even further around to get nearer them, and the sun wasn’t in the right position anyway, but this photo will have to do. They were definitely worth the walk.
On to Thurso, checked in to the Premier Inn, in time to watch Cameron Norrie win his match and reach the semi-finals of Wimbledon.
At the same time, J checked her iPad for news - and what news there is - Sunak and Javid have resigned!! The Chancellor and Health Secretary!! Resigned!!! Surely BJ should do the decent thing and resign…
Quite a day…
