Munich Airport
So, as I indicated in yesterday's backblip we got to Munich!
Highlights (and lowlights) of the journey;
Travel from the hotel in Becton to Heathrow - 2 hours to do 35 miles around the North Circular. I won't be doing that again.
Car parking at Heathrow - very efficient
Airport - totally exceeded our expectations. No queues at the Lufthansa bag drop, queues at security but no worse than I have experienced before. Terminal 2 was busy but loads of seating, no difficulties getting a snack for lunch. I think this is the first time I have been in the terminal since it was one of my projects back in my working days. I was impressed the gates were so accessible.
Flight - full but on time. Managed OK with a mask during the flight itself.
Munich Airport - the baggage took an age to come through, but it was all there. Passport control is different now. One of the 'benefits' since Brexit is that you get your passport nicely stamped now! Added as an extra. And you get grilled about why you are here, where are you staying, and how long will you be here.
Travel to hotel - was a bit tedious, we got the S-Bahn for the first bit but then got a taxi for the last bit.
Hotel - OK quality wise but our room must be the furthest away from the desk and breakfast area. I'm getting 700 steps in each morning before we even leave the hotel. We've had some issues with service too which I will cover in a later blip.
All in all though a far nicer experience getting to Munich that I had expected, being the natural pessimist that I am.
In the evening we had a look at daughter#2's apartment which is lovely and about 5 minutes walk from the hotel, and followed that with a nice evening meal in a local open air restaurant that she uses quite a lot.
I have to say I am very impressed with her German.
