First outing!
Monday June 27
We decided this would be a good week to take our camper away for a short trip, so we can check out how everything works, and make sure all is as it should be. We decided on Alum Creek State Park, just northwest of Columbus, about 1 3/4 hours drive, a new place for us to explore, and a lake for us to kayak on. Alum Creek dam is part of the flood control plan for the Ohio River basin. The lake was authorized by Congress in the Flood Control Act of 1962. Construction began in 1970 and was completed in 1974. Also, being Golden Buckeye Card owners (a discount card for seniors) we get 50% off State Park campgrounds Sunday through Thursday, so it was only costing us $15 a night! However, we couldn’t get away till about lunchtime, as Roger had already booked the Honda Accord in for a service, and we need that done by next weekend, as we have offered to loan it to Jen and Jason for a few months as they move to Atlanta and are going to need a second car. So it was late afternoon when we arrived at the campsite. It was a large spread out campground amongst the trees, but with your own private little clearing. We got the camper set up, then went to a supermarket to get a few things for dinner.
