Fairy Tale Day 3 -Mad King's dreams
All enquiries on this Blip to Nogbad Nigel, please. He has done the day trip more often than he has ever crossed Kent/Sussex/Kent/Sussex/Kent borders in one day.
Hohenschwangau, Neuschwanstein, Austria border, Reutte (Aldi for liquid picnic supplies), Plansee for liquid picnic, German border, Linderhof castle, Oberammergau, skirting around Garmisch & Mittenwald (within hand grenade range of G7 meeting hotel), Austrian border to our hotel in Seefeld.
Never in my life have I seen thousands of police vans & checkpoints. Although we were stopped twice, once to be asked to go through the checkpoint a bit slower so that they could peek through the windows and once to ask where we were heading, never asked for passport or ID.
At the hotel in Seefeld, a ski & summer hiking resort, we did also encounter German police. They were being put up in any hotel that had space. An officer came to the bar to ask how long they were open, as they were looking for a place where they could meet up for a drink. They were from northern Germany.
As Nigel will understand, the highlight of the day was Plansee, and after a swim (not me), we got away much too late, only just making Linderhof before the gardens closed. Oberammergau was open as the two-year delayed Passion play is in full swing, but our hotel restaurant was closed by the time we got there.
