We are learning about the challenges of charging EV vehicles belonging to visitors, especially if they are subject to a timetable.

Last week one of our daughter’s friends arrived in a Tesla. The nearest fast charger on her app was Edinburgh Airport some 13 miles away but because of engagements there was no time to get the vehicle charged. So she left very early in the morning to head south and stop off en route to recharge. Apparently with a fast charger in 20 minutes to reach 80%.

Our visiting friends this weekend needed topped up. The nearest charger for them is about 2 miles away. As you can see from the blip there is a variety of charging plugs.

Unfortunately when we plugged in there was no charge and the device was locked in as a security feature. Eventually we got it free but a second attempt while ringing the help line also failed. So some 15 minutes later while still on hold we headed 3+ miles away to find an alternative charger. Fortunately, as we were still early, there were several charging points and we quickly secured one and got it working. With this vehicle 80% charge takes 45/50 minutes or so.

So unless you have a home charger with the right connector you might be stymied if on a tight schedule.

All sorted in the end but it has been a learning process.
