The heat wave has now enveloped the whole of the U.K. and N.I. Our house is south facing which means my study, on the north side has been a cool haven from the heat.

In the morning we had a catch up on a video call with long standing Edinburgh friends. They were due to stay in the Cotswolds this week and we were looking forward to seeing them again. Sadly Covid has intervened and video connection had to suffice.

I watched the tennis this afternoon. Novak Djokovic’s fitness was as awesome as ever and his unseeded opponent, Nick Kyrgios, also did well, despite his vocal frustrations!

Another evening meal, al fresco, before a second video call with a friend working in the Middle East.

We watched, with fascination, the ants suddenly emerge from below the terrace slabs and sprout wobbly wings. They even flew off like over laden military transport aircraft.

In the cooler evening air we took another spin around the block.
