Cheltenham Music Festival

In one of the oldest buildings in England I discovered a 5G phone signal!

We were in Gloucester Cathedral for a Cheltenham Music Festival concert. It was a classical “mix tape” event on three stages in the main nave. Most of the chairs had been removed. The large audience, of mixed ages, was encouraged to bring yoga mats and cushions. Movement around the nave during the performances was actively encouraged as was the use of mobiles and cameras! The format was how the original music making happened here in this ancient performance space!

Needless to say it was also a beautiful refuge from the 31 degree early evening heat. The ancient building’s height and airyness also gave us great Covid protection.

A wonderful evening including performances by Merton College Choir the Manchester Collective and a solo accordion!
