End of An Era

The Round Rock Volunteer Fire Department existed between 1983 and 2007, protecting the outlying areas of the town outside the city limits. In 2007, the Emergency Services District board, appointed by our County Commissioners, elected to end the contract between the District and the volunteer fire department, and instead to contract with the City of Round Rock for fire protection. So, "thanks for 123 years of dedicated service, don't let the door hit you in the butt on your way out the door."

There's lots of monkey business going on with Emergency Services Districts in Texas these days; see my earlier blips on the far more insidious and dangerous shenanigans going on with the Liberty Hill Fire Department, also here in my county.

This was the RRVFD's antique engine used for parades; I am pleased to see that it is still being lovingly maintained.
