Shantullich at the end of our hottest day of the year, so far. Solitary photo taken today.
Whilst out for the evening wander, heard my first Quail calling of the year, and later an unfamiliar call in the wood nearer home. Thought it may be a Tawny Owl youngster, and recalling Eric Hosking's misfortune - losing an eye in such circumstances - was wary of trying to get close lest the adults were about. A wee bit of "bird charming" piqued the interest of the source of the noise, and a young Tawny Owl flew closer, to the top of a storm snapped Silver Birch trunk. It then did the usual owl thing of moving its head from side to side, trying to get the measure of me.
