Mower Monday.....
Another busy one . First job was to run the spring calving cows and calves into the steading. Gave the cows a dose of fly repellent along their top line as two or three of them have badly fly eaten teats already.
Then moved them to the field that I put the electric wire up in yesterday. Good idea, except some of the calves went straight under the wire and into the silage field. Of course their mothers followed straight through the wire .
So onto plan B. Managed to drop the wire onto the ground, rodeo them back, put the wire back up then ran a second ,lower electric wire to stop the calves . Once they all calm down it should be OK.
A meeting at 10 am for an hour then nipped off to get a more powerful fence energiser from Harbor. So hopefully that will cure the cattle/ fence problems.
After lunch, scattered the field of hay again. If it stays dry it might bale tomorrow.
Back home ,hitched up the mower and cut the end riggs of a field next door. Not a lot on it ,but need it cleared before we bring the hill sheep across the field on the way to be sheared on Monday.
Home by 6 pm then back down the road to feed the heifers. More problems though, one field had no water in their trough and they had wrecked the ballcock fighting for a drink. So back up the road for some tools and a new ballcock stem .
Back down the road to get it fixed eventually.
Home in time for tea by 9 pm.
Both Junior and Littlemiss working today as well. One at the castle, the other at a vet practice. So a productive day all round .
