Marsh Helleborine
Easily a contender for most beautiful wildflower you're likely to find in the UK, rare though.
A visit to Waitby Greenriggs, a fabulous spot for a picnic lunch. Incredibly though they've decided to let ponies graze part of the reserve - ecologically the effect they've had was heartbreaking, Orchids trampled, everything shorn short, a dearth of diversity and four very very fat ponies, I genuinely thought a flock of goats had gotten in at first. As soon as we went through the gate to the part they can't access the change was immediate, more flowers, dozens of flowering grasses, suddenly there were butterflies a flutter. It massively demonstrated the effect grazing has on nature. I hope they're moved on soon before they can do more damage.
Ps - thanks for all the lovely comments yesterday, Mrs IttH was very happy.
