Sgwarnog: In the Field

Thunderclap

My whirlwind engagement with the women’s Euros (three games in five days) concludes with a return to the Academy Stadium in Manchester for another look at Iceland, this time taking on Italy.

Today I’d been placed in the middle of one of the large blocks of Iceland fans. And everyone was delighted when Iceland took the lead in the opening minutes. Italy grew into the game though and it was no surprise that an equaliser came mid way through the second half.  There were good chances for both sides to get a winner but 1-1 remained.

The Iceland followers have a good array of chants, of which the most famous is the thunderclap. It’s not overused, just once in each half, but it was fun to be inside the thunderclap (main image) and of course joining in.
