Diary of an Edinburgher

JR did not go to the gym this morning - instead, she busied herself in the kitchen, baking a lemon drizzle cake and blueberry muffins. I helped by making eggy sandwiches (with the crusts cut off, of course) and cheese and pickle ones.

Elizabeth came earlier than usual to take Archie out for a shorter walk, because she was bringing her Auntie Helen to visit in the afternoon. She and Archie often go and visit Helen (95), who has a big garden which she only recently has got someone to help with. But it turns out that she actually knew my father when they were both in the Gaelic Society.

We had a most enjoyable afternoon, with Helen regaling us with stories of her family, her life and her travels.

My back is still very sore. I can barely walk. I don’t know what I’ve done to it - nothing. I do hope it sorts itself very soon, as it’s no fun.
