Marjorie's ramblings

River God Tyne

I've always been rather fond of this brass sculpture that graces a wall of Newcastle Civic Centre. The building was put up between 1960 and 67 and was officially opened in 1968. The sculptor was David Wynne.

I went to university in Newcastle in 1970 and walked past the Civic Centre hundreds of times. The sculpture has seen better days and the building looks dated so I took the god away from the wall and put him in the sky above. Both images shot today.

Mum had her eyelid operation in the RVI today. We had a very long wait because she was last on the list, but for some reason had to be there early. The waiting room for day surgery was completely packed out. The TV was on, with sound, and it made for a very uncomfortable wait. I'd like to ban TVs in such places and recommend quiet Baroque music which has been shown to have a calming effect, whether people like it or not. No wonder various people had raised BPs.

Mum looks as though she has been mugged and is in a lot of pain. She even allowed me to put her to bed during the evening, so I know she is not feeling well. A blip today would have been unkind.

Back home there were Walking Festival problems to field and we have worries over a distant relative in Sunderland who should be in care.

Amidst all this, I managed 1 hour out of the hospital while the operation was performed, so this is the blip.
