Thoughtfulness

I have always been glad that we have a cellar under our 1904-built house, even when it repeatedly flooded a couple of years ago after a cloudburst had cracked the concrete slab underneath it. It probably cost us more than the original purchase price of the house to have the cellar waterproofed and an automatic pump fitted after that! However, the boiler room is down there and in the winter it’s a great place to dry the laundry. There is also another room which has a wonderfully ambient temperature of about 19° all year round, which is ideal for cooling yourself down in hot weather.

This afternoon we happened to mention to our youngest son that we will probably pop down there tomorrow when the heatwave strikes to sit and read our books, and we asked him if we could borrow his camping chairs. A few minutes later he informed us that he had sorted out our seating arrangements. We were stunned to discover that he had single handedly carried down from the first floor to the cellar two leather reclining armchairs and a coffee table so that we could sit and read in comfort!

It’s so wonderful to have him home again. He’s also been doing sterling Uncle duties today with our three granddaughters and it feels as though he’s never been away – although he was, for seven whole years.
