Common Seals on a seasonal visit to a shingle bank near the mouth of the River Ness, as viewed from the (very windy) Kessock Bridge.
First time I've been able to cross the big bridge on the "normal" side this year, as it's been closed whilst painting works are taking place under the bridge. Extremely slow progress. I reckon that the bridge was built in fewer years than they've been doing these works.
Had been wondering if the seals were in their usual spot for the time of year, and thought the recent lack of rain would mean the fish weren't heading up the river. Couldn't see this bank from the East side of the bridge that we'd been forced to use since last November or December. Judging by the large size of some of them, they are close to giving birth to pups.
