A little cheer ..
.. on an otherwise debilitatingly hot day.
Temperatures not as high in the SW and this picture of Eda and mummy enjoying a bit of shady cafe culture in Larkhall cheered me up as I should have been there today, arriving in the last half hour, but of course all rail transport has been disrupted. Northern not running, Cross Country only offering limited routes from Birmingham and reduced speed but with an assurance you can use your ticket tomorrow or Thursday so that’s what I’ll do. (Nice for Eda to get some days to herself with mummy before starting school as Jude is still going to nursery.)
Son Alex has been working on an industrial boiler at 42C and back in his van it’s registering 40C.
We’re in the living room with a fan and curtains drawn watching the Tour de France. We’ve had a strawberry split lolly to help us keep cool ( see blip one year ago today), salad again for tea.
Last night the highest ever recorded night temperature was recorded in Yorkshire (Emley Moor) according to the lunchtime news. I was awake before 3.00 am but the air from the open window was pleasantly cool. I took a picture of the sky as it lightened just after 4.00am and again just after 5.00am. No dramatic sunrise but you knew it was coming. I closed the window before it got warm and managed a couple of hours more sleep.
The only useful things I’ve done today was clean the shower as it was rather pleasant in there, and a bit of washing, not at all pleasant hanging it out.
Let’s hope for some normality tomorrow.
