In Need of Repair
Yay...I could cross over the ford to the true left bank of the river this morning without getting my feet wet. I scrambled across the shingle and up onto the concrete slab.
But before I did so I captured this image of the area now that the flood waters have receded.
The river and its environs can change very rapidly. The ford was flooded out a few days ago and previously to that event I had blipped an image showing the area at "Low Flow".
I love the shingle bedded rivers in New Zealand. Never boring, they are not static, they are ever changing depending on the water that flows down them during the year. The channels change, the river meanders differently and the topography alters from season to season.
All that greenery draped across the river are grasses and weeds caught up on the wire which is across the river. The wire is part of a wire fence designed to keep unauthorized vehicles in their correct area.
I had a feeling the ford and its access area would be repaired today. The only authorized vehicle access to the Paintball Park is via the ford and I expect there will be Paintball Games being held this weekend.
Anyway I was right. I went back to check this evening and sure enough the tractor and digger had been doing their work and there is now vehicle access over to the other side of the river...... until the next flood event....
