Rarangi Beach

Today is the second to last day of the Photographic Society of New Zealand’s convention here in Blenheim. It was a big day for all with all-day workshops and field trips to various parts of Marlborough.
I participated in the full day workshop at Rarangi Beach which is about 25 minutes’ drive from Blenheim. The subject was “Visual Design and Composition”. Our workshop leader was Bruce Girdwood and he was truly inspirational. He had us all down on the beach after lunch experimenting with ND filters and slow, slow…. I mean slow… shutter speeds. Then there were zooming techniques. Many of us felt well out of our comfort zones and yet all felt as if we had learned so much by the end of the day.
My image for the day is a zoomed shot of the north end of Rarangi Beach. The tide was coming in and the waves were breaking quite heavily on the pea gravel beach. The colours were rather lovely. I am inspired to return to the beach sometime soon for further experimentation….practice, practice, practice.
