Red red wine
Another early start to head to Napa and Sonoma wine counties with a stop in Muir woods to see the redwood trees. It was a lovely day, our guide Ross was fun and chatty with lots of great stories and anecdotes to share. As we drove past San Quentin on the freeway he suggested anyone misbehaving would be dropped at the door.
Muir woods is stunning, we had time to walk the full short circuit and take many shots of tree trunks before getting back on the bus and heading to the first of our 3 wineries. A rose and 2 reds were on offer for tasting and we took a wee walk into the edge of the vineyard. Was a little phased by the watch out for poisonous snakes but apparently they mostly stick to the tree line! Some interesting artwork on display but prices were a little rich for us as they started at $225,000.
Stopped at Sonoma town plaza for lunch. It’s a lovely old fashioned town square surrounding a park and we enjoyed some delicious Mexican food before heading to our second winery. We sat in the garden tasting a white, and 2 more reds and enjoyed the views. None of the wineries we visited ship to the UK so we didn’t buy any to take away. Our final stop had us tasting a Chardonnay (unoaked thankfully), a Cabernet Sauvignon and a red dessert wine which was very reminiscent of port. Too sweet for me,
We stopped at a viewpoint to take shots of the bridge with the far tower shrouded with mist, well worth the breeze from the ocean.
By the time we fit dropped off, the others wanted to head for dinner but Mr PHL and I decided to head to the shops as I’ve run out of my cleanser and then stopped at a dinner for a light supper. Packing mostly done, just the last few bits to add in the morning before we head to Las Vegas baby.
Backblipped Tuesday for Monday
