Groyne in the telling

As we headed out of Cheltenham this morning the second day of The Cheltenham Cricket Festival was just beginning. We drove up Leckhamton Hill as the rain began. It did not last long. By the time we reached the M4 the sun was out again and the temperature a much more bearable 24 degrees than yesterday’s deadly heat.

We arrived in Portsmouth in time for a picnic lunch on the gunwharf before taking advantage of the calm Solent and warm sunshine for a cruise across to Fishbourne and back, as foot passengers. The views were spectacular.

Back in Portsmouth we headed east to Arundel where we had pre-booked a dinner bed and breakfast deal.

After our meal we drove down to the sea at Climping. I used to come here as a wee bairn. It was not how I remembered it. There was now a massive concrete sea wall and a forest of wooden groynes. The aforementioned global warming is already impacting sea levels on the English south coast.
